LASIK surgery recovery

1 week after LASIK treatment

Most patients attend a 1-week post-op appointment; if your doctor has scheduled one for you, be sure to attend. Your eyes are still healing, and a little day-to-day fluctuation in your vision is typical: nothing to be alarmed about.

What to expect

The stabilization period

As your eyes heal, your vision may fluctuate a bit day to day. During this stabilization period, some glare, halos, and night-vision difficulty may be experienced. These are generally short-term symptoms that tend to get better by themselves in time.

Keeping your eyes well lubricated will assist with your post-LASIK results. And always contact your surgeon if you have questions, develop any unusual symptoms, experience any pain, or suspect a problem.

What to do

  • Attend your 1-week post-op appointment if scheduled
  • Continue your prescribed eye drops, as directed
  • Resume strenuous exercise, using eye protection to avoid rubbing or contact
  • Stop using your eye shields at night after seven days
  • Contact your surgeon about any unusual symptoms, pain, or concerns

What to avoid

  • Pools and swimming for at least 1 week after surgery
  • Contact sports for a few weeks, due to the higher risk of eye injury
  • Eye creams and eye makeup, unless your doctor advises differently

Questions about your recovery?

No question is too small during recovery. If anything feels unusual, your surgeon would rather hear from you today than at your next appointment.
