The basics
What is modern LASIK?
For anyone struggling with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, achieving improved natural vision without glasses or contacts can be transformative. LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) has become a widely popular and successful vision correction procedure, and modern LASIK is its most advanced form.
Modern LASIK uses femtosecond laser technology for unparalleled precision in corneal reshaping. The bladeless procedure corrects refractive vision issues by meticulously sculpting the cornea, the transparent dome at the front of the eye, to focus light accurately onto the retina for clear vision.
What it corrects
- Nearsightedness (myopia)
- Farsightedness (hyperopia)
- Astigmatism
How it’s different
- 100% bladeless: the corneal flap is made by laser, not a mechanical blade
- Ultra-fast light pulses create a thinner, more uniform flap
- Customizable to your eye’s exact map (see our laser technology)
The leap forward
Modern vs. traditional LASIK
The core difference is how the corneal flap is created. Traditional LASIK uses a mechanical microkeratome blade; modern LASIK uses a femtosecond laser. Going bladeless changes three things:
Enhanced precision and predictability
Femtosecond lasers deliver ultra-fast pulses of light, creating a thinner, more precise, and uniform corneal flap with minimal tissue disruption, making reshaping and outcomes more predictable.
Reduced risk of complications
Going bladeless minimizes complications associated with manual blade techniques, such as uneven flap creation or accidental tears, for a safer surgical experience.
Faster healing and reduced discomfort
Smooth, precise corneal incisions promote faster healing and minimize postoperative discomfort. Patients often recover quicker than with traditional methods.

Benefits of modern LASIK
Superior safety and precision
Advanced diagnostic tools and femtosecond lasers ensure unparalleled accuracy and control throughout the procedure, minimizing risk and optimizing visual outcomes.
Quicker recovery and reduced discomfort
Faster healing times and less postoperative discomfort, thanks to femtosecond lasers that create smoother corneal surfaces.
A wider range of correctable conditions
Modern LASIK addresses a broader spectrum of refractive errors, including hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), and astigmatism. Its customizable nature lets surgeons target specific vision imperfections with exceptional accuracy.
Long-lasting results
Many patients enjoy significantly improved vision for years after the procedure. The stability and predictability of outcomes drive its enduring success.
