What to expect
Back to (most of) your routine
While you’ll be able to resume most activities after a day or so, limit strenuous activity, continue to rest your eyes, and avoid tasks that could get dust or dirt in them. Many people return to work the day after their LASIK eye surgery; others take a bit more time.
Reading, working on the computer, and watching television can be resumed 24 hours after surgery; keep your eyes lubricated during these activities if needed. Each person’s healing pattern is unique, so resume activities based on your doctor’s instruction.
What to do

- Follow the medical team’s recommendations for eye protection while you sleep

- Resume reading, computer work, and TV after 24 hours, keeping your eyes lubricated

- Touching or rubbing your eyes
- Lotions, creams, and eye makeup for about 7 days, or as directed by your doctor
- Water in your eyes for the first 72 hours; swimming and hot tubs for several weeks
- Strenuous activity and tasks that could get dust or dirt in your eyes
